Read Across America Month at Robinson Barracks Elementary School
STUTTGART, Germany – Robinson Barracks Elementary School recently came alive with energy and excitement during a month-long Read Across America celebration. The event brought together students, staff, families, and community members to promote a love of reading and strengthen community connections.
The celebration kicked off with a fun-filled assembly where teachers performed creative skits based on popular children’s books. Students eagerly watched and tried to guess the correct titles, filling the room with laughter and enthusiasm.
One of the most memorable highlights was Mystery Readers Week. Family members and community guests surprised classrooms by dropping in to read stories aloud, creating special moments students won’t soon forget.
Students also had the exciting opportunity to participate in a virtual author visit with Jerry Pallotta. Hearing directly from a well-known author gave students a deeper appreciation for storytelling and inspired many young readers and writers.
Another standout event was “Read Around Robinson,” where students rotated from room to room to hear guest readers share stories. Special guests included the Community Superintendent, Stuttgart Garrison Commander, Stuttgart School Liaison Officer, a local Police Chief, and more, all showing students the importance of reading across the community.
Students also enjoyed a trivia week, Spirit Week, and a Family Literacy Night that brought families together to celebrate reading in an interactive way.
This busy and successful month was spearheaded by the school’s information specialist and supported by dedicated teachers and staff. The celebration would not have been possible without the support of the RBES PTSA, Stuttgart Community Spouses Club, and NEA.
Overall, the Read Across America celebration was a meaningful and engaging experience that fostered a love of reading while bringing the entire Robinson Barracks community together.
