Robinson Barracks Elementary Celebrates a Successful Family Literacy Night

Robinson Barracks Elementary School recently hosted a highly successful Family Literacy Night, bringing together students, parents, teachers, and community members for an evening filled with engaging activities that highlighted the joy of reading. Organized by the reading committee, the event transformed the school into an interactive literacy wonderland.
Family Literacy Night was one of the major events in March, a month when Robinson Barracks Elementary is buzzing with reading activities, thanks to generous grants from the National Education Association (NEA) and the RBES PTSA. The school kicked off the month with a special Reader’s Theater performance by the teachers, delighting students with an engaging storytelling experience. Throughout the month, students participated in a story-based Spirit Week, a fun-filled Trivia Week, and an ongoing Read-a-Thon to encourage daily reading.
During Family Literacy Night, families explored a variety of literacy stations around the school, each designed to make reading fun and interactive. In the library, students and parents played mini-golf, combining strategy with literacy themes. Other stations featured literacy games, sight word games, an obstacle course, read-and-sing activities, beanbag story-building games, art expression, story-time yoga, literacy-themed escape rooms, and more.
Patch Middle School drama students performed short skits, bringing stories to life with their entertaining performances. The PTSA played a huge role, not only providing a free dinner for all attendees but also organizing a book swap where students could take home a bag of books at no cost, generously donated by community members and families.
But what made the night truly special wasn’t just the activities; it was the joy of families engaging in literacy together. Parents and children played games, solved puzzles, read stories, and laughed side by side, creating an atmosphere where learning felt like pure fun. The school was filled with smiles, excitement, and shared moments of discovery, proving that literacy is not just about reading—it's about connection.
The excitement doesn’t stop there. Parents and community leaders will also take part in “Read Around Robinson,” an upcoming event where guest readers will share stories with students as they travel from room to room, listening to a variety of engaging tales. This event fosters a love of reading while connecting students with role models in their community.
The entire month has been a true community effort. Volunteers from the local high school helped run stations, teachers enthusiastically led activities, and community members stepped in to support. Parental involvement was outstanding, with moms and dads playing literacy games, reading with their children, and sharing in the excitement of learning.
Robinson Barracks Elementary will wrap up this exciting month of reading with an Adventure Time Obstacle Course and activity station celebration, ensuring that students end the month with even more fun and interactive experiences.
Family Literacy Night, Read Around Robinson, and the entire month of reading activities at Robinson Barracks Elementary continue to be a resounding success, showcasing the importance of literacy in a fun and engaging way. More than anything, Family Literacy Night was a night where families came together, strengthening their love of reading and learning together.
