Celebrating Mother's Day: A Heartfelt Tribute to Our Amazing Moms and Caregivers

Dear Bulldog Families,

As we approach Mother’s Day this year, we take a moment to honor the incredible mothers, caregivers, and mother figures in our lives. Their unwavering love, support, and sacrifices deserve to be celebrated, and there’s no better time than now to express our gratitude.

Mother’s Day is celebrated on different dates around the world, but in the United States, it falls on the second Sunday in May. This special day emerged in the early 20th century and has since evolved into a heartfelt tradition that emphasizes appreciation for all that mothers do.

Why Do We Celebrate?
Moms are often our first teachers and biggest advocates. They guide us through challenges, cheer us on at our achievements, and offer comfort in tough times. Mother’s Day is a perfect opportunity to reflect on their contributions and let them know how much they are cherished.

Creative Ways to Celebrate Moms:
Here are some thoughtful and engaging ideas to help your child show appreciation for their amazing moms:

  1. Handmade Cards: Encourage your child to craft a unique card using construction paper, colorful markers, and stickers. A personal touch can make a message of love even more meaningful!
  2. Breakfast in Bed: Surprise mom with a delicious breakfast! Kids can help prepare a simple meal like toast, fruit, or pancakes (with a little adult guidance, of course). Eating in bed makes it feel extra special!
  3. Quality Family Time: Plan a memorable family outing—be it a picnic in the park, a nature hike, or a cozy movie night at home. Creating new memories together can be one of the greatest gifts.
  4. Acts of Kindness: Encourage children to lend a hand around the house. Simple tasks like cleaning their rooms, helping with laundry, or even doing the dishes can show moms just how much they care.
  5. Memory Scrapbook: Collaborate on a scrapbook filled with treasured family memories. Include photos, drawings, and notes reflecting love and joy shared over the years. It can be a heartfelt keepsake for years to come.

Thank You, Moms!

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all the incredible mothers in our school community. Your boundless love, hard work, and support do not go unnoticed. Whether you’re a mom, stepmom, grandmother, or a cherished mother figure, your positive influence shapes the lives of our children and enriches our entire community.

Happy Mother’s Day to each and every one of you! Let’s embrace this day as a beautiful celebration of love, gratitude, and the joy that family brings.

Host Nation - May Poles

“In Germany, May 1st is celebrated as Tag der Arbeit (Labor Day), a national holiday with a dual identity that reflects both political and seasonal traditions.

On the one hand, it overlaps with ancient springtime festivities rooted in pagan traditions, symbolizing renewal, fertility, and rejuvenation—elements that were later Christianized into the celebration of Walpurgisnacht on the night of April 30. Historically, this night was believed to be when witches flew to the Brocken Mountain to celebrate, a tale famously featured in Goethe’s Faust. A key symbol of the spring celebration is the Maibaum (maypole), a tall tree trunk is decorated with colorful ribbons, wreaths.

On the other hand, it is a day dedicated to honoring workers' rights, typically marked by union-led marches, public speeches, and rallies supporting social justice and labor solidarity.  A maibaum used for celebrating workers is decorated with crests or carved figures to represent local crafts or trades . Villages across Germany erect their Maibaum on May 1, accompanied by brass bands, folk costumes, festive processions, and traditional dances like the Tanz in den Mai. In Bavaria, playful traditions such as maypole climbing contests and even maypole “thefts” from rival villages add to the excitement and community spirit.

At Robinson Barracks Elementary School (RBES), Host Nation teacher Frau Connolly creatively brought both aspects of May 1st to life. She constructed two Maibäume—one in the Bavarian style to honor and celebrate the hard-working staff who ensure students are educated and cared for, and another more traditional spring-themed Maibaum around which students danced as part of their lessons. This engaging cultural activity helped students understand the rich, layered meanings of the holiday, connecting the labor movement with the joy and energy of spring.”

5th Graders

Fifth-grade students have been immersed in learning and exploring the rich histories of the Incas, Maya, and Aztecs. They delved into ancient civilizations, uncovering fascinating facts and cultural practices. Meanwhile, the students have been harnessing their creativity with Adobe image creation, crafting vibrant visuals that bring their stories to life with their image creations.  Fifth grade added a little fun twist to learning with Oreo cookies to model the phases of the moon, transforming a tasty treat into an educational tool. This hands-on approach not only makes learning engaging but also fosters a deeper understanding of diverse subjects. 🌟

Letter Formation

Is letter formation important for your child's literacy development?

Absolutely! Think of proper letter formation as one of the building blocks of your child's literacy journey. When they master the correct way to write letters, their writing becomes clear, legible, and easy to understand. But that's not all—this skill also boosts their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, which are essential for many everyday activities. By supporting your child in learning proper letter formation, you're setting them up for effective written communication and academic success. It's a fundamental skill that will benefit them throughout their life!  Working on proper letter formation can be fun and multisensory! Sand trays, Ziplock sensory bags, and playdough are just a few examples.

Donations Accepted from May 1st to May 14th

Our service project, Project Hygiene, is still in need of supplies. We are looking for self-care items such as ChapStick, deodorant, shampoo, floss, toothpaste, sunscreen etc. We are collecting items through Wednesday, May 14.  Our Loose Change Jar is in the front office of the school. We are collecting money to purchase specific bags to hold the items for each person receiving a hygiene kit.
