Volunteer Program Information

As we prepare for the SY2025-2026 school year, we want to inform you about an important update regarding our volunteer program.

While many of you have submitted paperwork for the 2024-2025 school year, all volunteers wishing to continue in SY2025-2026 will be required to complete and resubmit their volunteer packets. This is necessary to comply with Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Personnel Security Processing requirements through the Personnel Security Case Administration System (PCAS).

The PTSA and classroom teachers need assistance throughout the year, and your volunteering greatly benefits our school. If you choose to work solely with the teacher in the classroom, you do not need to fill out volunteer paperwork. However, if you wish to assist with chaperoning during field trips, support PTSA activities, or need to roam the hallways away from a teacher, you will need to complete and submit the volunteer paperwork.

Please note that the process can take some time, especially if you have not gone through it before, so we recommend starting early. To do so, please fill out the necessary forms and submit them to the secretary at julia.peabody@dodea.edu.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. Your support and volunteering help make our school a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

On May 29th at 3:30 p.m.,  Patch Elementary School will be hosting the quarterly Installation Advisory Committee (IAC).  This committee includes the Garrison Command Team, School Administrators, and members from each School Advisory Committee.    The purpose of the IAC is to discuss topics that are elevated from each School Advisory Committee, and to facilitate communication between DoDEA and Garrison.

Please note that this IAC was originally scheduled for 20 May, and have been moved to 29 May.

The IAC is open to the school community.  If you are interested in attending, or learning more about the IAC, please contact Brian Pappas, School Liaison Officer, at brian.n.pappas.naf@army.mil.

Universal Pre-K Program

In our Pre-Kindergarten program, play is a powerful tool for learning! Through hands-on, interactive, and interest-based activities, children build important skills in language, thinking, and getting along with others. Our classroom is filled with exciting areas like Dramatic Play, Sand and Water, Art, Music and Movement, and more—each designed to support the DoDEA standards through fun and meaningful exploration. Children also enjoy a full-day schedule that includes lunch served family-style, where they practice independence by choosing their own foods and serving themselves. Every day is a new adventure in learning and growing together in UPK!

Robinson Barracks Elementary School Hosts STEM Experience with Brilliant Labs and Stuttgart Elementary

Students at Robinson Barracks Elementary School recently engaged in a dynamic and hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) experience, thanks to an exciting collaboration with Brilliant Labs, an innovative education organization from Canada. This enriching event brought together bright young minds from both Robinson Barracks and Stuttgart Elementary School for a day of exploration, creativity, and technology-driven learning.

Brilliant Labs is an Atlantic Canadian-based charity that offers a hands-on, experiential learning platform empowering youth to learn through the integration of creativity, innovation, and today’s technology. By aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fostering an entrepreneurial spirit, Brilliant Labs works to inspire change in educational curricula throughout Atlantic Canada and beyond. Their mission is to engage students in meaningful ways, blending creativity and technology to prepare them for future challenges.

Fourth and fifth graders from Robinson Barracks eagerly participated in a variety of engaging STEM activities led by Brilliant Labs instructors Marc-André Pelletier and Chantal Doiron-Pelletier. The students had the opportunity to explore coding, robotics, circuitry, and even felting, all while driving the sessions with their own creativity. The goal was to inspire students to think critically and innovate in a hands-on way, providing a platform where they could lead their learning experiences.

Adding to the collaborative spirit of the event, a group of students from Stuttgart Elementary School also joined in, accompanied by their teacher, Ms. Dara Phillips. The shared experience fostered cross-school friendships and highlighted the power of partnership in education.

The visit from Brilliant Labs not only introduced students to new technologies but also emphasized creativity, critical thinking, and sustainability—skills essential for the future. The success of this event left both students and teachers eager for more opportunities to explore STEM together.

picture of the words nurse's note

Springtime is upon us with rainy days, sunny days, and lots of blooming! We are all overwhelmed with sneezing, itching, and watery eyes. As much as our littles try and keep their hands clean, inevitably hidden germs go from hand to mouth and eyes. Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, is common this time of year for that reason. If your student wakes up with crusty eyes that cannot be opened, constant discharge, pain, and pink/red eyes, they are excluded from school until treatment AND no current drainage. If this occurs during school, you will be contacted to pick up the student. Pinkeye is very contagious and can be passed from one eye to another or from student to student. Additional information is included. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. It is much appreciated!

Respectfully,

Nurse Cris

Building Vocabulary

Your child’s vocabulary starts growing long before they learn to read. By understanding the different types of vocabulary and trying out simple, everyday activities at home, you can play a big role in helping your child build strong language skills from the very beginning.

Here are the four types of vocabulary, with easy activities you can do with your child at home:

Listening Vocabulary

Definition: Understanding words when heard in spoken language.

Activity: Look at photos and describe them to your child. Then, ask follow-up questions (who, what, when, where, and how) and give your child time to respond.

Speaking Vocabulary

Definition: Understanding the meanings of words when spoken.

Activity: Look at any item around the house, and have your child describe it. Then, ask follow-up questions (who, what, when, where, and how) and give your child time to explain.

Reading Vocabulary

Definition: Knowing the meanings of words when reading.

Activity: Find an article or book, and ask your child to find an unfamiliar word. Together, define that word and use it in a sentence.

Writing Vocabulary

Definition: Understanding the meanings of words when written.

Activity: Have your child write stories or keep a journal. Your child can also keep a list of new words with explanations and pictures of what each word means.

Make vocabulary fun! Idioms, analogies, tongue twisters, and rhymes can foster vocabulary learning.
