Robinson Barracks Elementary School hosted its fourth annual Chess Tournament on January 15, with students from both Robinson Barracks and Stuttgart Elementary School competing. The event featured two double-elimination brackets: one for 40 students and another for the top 16 players, representing grades kindergarten through fifth.

The tournament showcased not only strategy and skill but also sportsmanship and respect. From beginners to seasoned players, students demonstrated impressive abilities, anticipating moves, planning ahead, and engaging in thoughtful competition. Each match emphasized the values of patience, fair play, and learning from both wins and losses.

A standout moment came when second grader Jackson Miller claimed the championship, displaying exceptional strategic thinking and perseverance throughout the tournament.

The event also highlighted the invaluable support of parent volunteers, who helped organize and manage the tournament, ensuring its smooth execution.

Mari Brown, the chess club sponsor at Robinson Barracks Elementary, praised the students for their maturity. “It’s not just about winning; it’s about competing with integrity and having fun,” Brown said. “The kids really understood that today. An important aspect of learning for kids is trying things out and solving problems. They didn’t just learn how to play chess, they practiced thinking ahead, staying calm when they lost, and good sportsmanship. It’s about figuring out how to do their best and having fun while learning important skills for the future.”
